Jain, 36, was posted as commissioner in the state’s Settlement department in Jaipur.
According to the police, Jain was on way to Delhi with his wife and son on Tuesday morning and had stopped at a restaurant in Shahajanpur in Alwar district, for breakfast.

Midway, he got up and went out of the restaurant on the pretext of making a call on his mobile phone,” Alwar SP Mahesh Goyal said. He, however, did not return.  Later his wife found a note addressed to her in their car.

The note spoke of Jain’s regret that he was not able to provide a house to his family even after putting in 11 years of service. “I am ashamed of it,” the note said and that he was “going somewhere for peace of mind and should not be disturbed,” the officer added. Jain advised his wife to go to Lucknow where her family had settled. The entire state police machinery was pressed into action.
