Recognising the need for soft skills training among the students, the aim of this activity was to inculcate a love for arts, be it dance, music or theatre, in them.  Said Archana Ramachandra, one of the organisers of the event and a lecturer in the college, “The purpose of this workshop was to strengthen the college cultural team. There are many students who are very talented and this programme was held to tap their skills in the right manner.”

The resource persons for the workshop were two eminent trainers, Vikram Vashisht and Chandana Vashisht, who are event organisers as well and train students in soft skills and life skills through performing arts.

The theatre workshop focussed on three important aspects integral to performing arts, that is dance, music and theatre. The speakers gave the students an overview of the nuances of these three forms of art. Besides this theoretical part, the students were even given practical training.

The speakers demonstrated the different dance moves and theatre skills and then the students had to perform the same in groups. This ensured that the students were given an opportunity to put to use what they had learnt during the theoretical session.

What is noteworthy is that after this workshop, the students will be trained by them on a weekly basis in different art forms like classical music and filmi music, contemporary and
Western dance.

The students enjoyed and learnt a lot from the workshop. The main thing, what many say, is that it helped them overcome the fear of going on stage and facing a crowd. Working as a team was one of the other major skills they acquired from the workshop.

On the whole, the students felt it was a day well spent. Rakesh, a first year BBM student, said it was the first time ever that a programme like this was conducted in the college and it was a great experience. “I have been in this college for the past four years. But this year, our lecturers took this initiative to conduct such cultural activities.”

His friend Safeena also says that this session helped her a lot in honing her skills. She adds, “I love to sing. But I never had the chance to take part in music activities before this. The way they brought out the different aspects was enriching and entertaining at the same time.” The enthusiastic students are thankful to the management for conducting this session and they hope to have many more activities like this in future.
