The centre would impart training for people aspiring for civil posts and various education department exams.

At a news conference on Wednesday, KSOU vice-chancellor K S Rangappa announced that it was an ambitious plan of the university to start the centre.

“We feel the job of the university do not end with awarding a degree. The universities can provide guidance and training for the youth to face various competitive exams. KSOU has more scope to expand its wing in this area,” he said. He said the centre would begin functioning soon. It would impart training for civil services – for various administrative posts of central and state government, banking examinations and other cadres.

The objective of the centre is also to see that candidates facing university eligibility test like NET, SLET, B Ed and M Ed admissions gets proper training.

KSOU has already identified trained and expert faculties, professors and other speakers for the respective courses, Rangappa disclosed.

Also, the centre would impart training for elected representatives of panchayat and municipality and conduct classes for government employees appearing for departmental examination, he said.

The vice-chancellor would directly head the centre and a committee which would monitor the programmes. Registrar, academic and administrative deans, a board of management member and deans of all study centre.

We will recruit most reliable scholars in various fields, he said adding that candidates who take admission would also be given study materials. The candidates would also be provided with state-of-the-art library and hostel facility for outsiders.

New buildings

Rangappa said KSOU would establish an administrative block and a Vigyan Bhavan at the 15 acre area transferred from University of Mysore.

“The reports of KSOU felling trees is completely false. We have applied through a proper channel to forest department to allow for felling a few trees to make way for these buildings. The decision was taken in interest of students and for starting science courses. Mobilising mere finance is not our target. KSOU has done nothing wrong,” he said.He slammed the media reports  which spoke of KSOU felling trees to make way for the trees.

The report is unfounded, he added.

The number of admissions to various courses this year has crossed two lakh, he said.
