AIR's platinum jubilee: valedictory tomorrow

M S Vijaya Haran, director of Akashavani, Mysore told reporters on Wednesday that the curtains will be down on the platinum jubilee with a grand musical evening.

The musical jugalbandi would feature Mysore M Nagaraj (violin), Rafiq Khan (sitar), Tumkur B Ravishankar (mridangam) and Ravindra Yavagal (tabala). Danseuse Tulasi Ramachandra and her troupe and artistes from Akashavani will present a dance ballet and a play on the occasion.

Ra Sathyanarayana, renowned musician would deliver the valedictory address. While, scholar and writer K B Prabhu Prasad would release a souvenir on the occasion.

For the last one year, Akashavani Mysore has organised various unique programmes to celebrate the 75 years of its existence. The Amritha Sinchana series brought interaction with people like N Kasthuri, Dr H K Ranganath, A N Murthy Rao, Y Venkataramaiah, S Krishnamurthy, T Nagamma, R K Srikanthan and Kamala Gopalaswamy.

The Akashavani programmes also touched upon subjects like history, science, culture, music and literature throughout and aired special interviews of people from all these sectors.  The programme, Thriveni Sangam was also a big hit among listeners. The Mysore Akashavani has been in the forefront in agriculture related broadcast, she said.
