Plea against DVS: HC seeks photo negatives

Last Updated 20 September 2011, 17:13 IST

K G Nagalakshmi Bai had approached the Court seeking criminal action against the Chief Minister for construction of a building in contravention of bylaws. According to the petition, Sadananda Gowda was allotted 24.84 guntas at Nelagunte village and he had approached the Bangalore Development Authority (BDA), seeking permission to amalgamate the adjacent site. The BDA, however, rejected permission. The petitioner had alleged that Gowda went ahead and constructed a shopping complex in a residential layout flouting BDA norms.

The Division Bench comprising Chief Justice Vikramjit Sen and Justice A S Bopanna, which looked at the photographs furnished with the petition, directed the petitioner to produce the negatives. The matter was adjourned.

Selection guidelines
The High Court has directed the State Government to furnish the guidelines followed by Sagar legislator Belur Gopalakrishna in selection of candidates for backward community hostels in his constituency.

H Danappa had filed a public interest litigation challenging the selection process. According to the petition, students with poor marks and hailing from nearby places had been given preference over meritorious students from far off places.

The petitioner had alleged that as a chairman of the selection committee, Gopalakrishna favoured his followers in selection of students.

He had sought that the selections be set aside and the process ordered afresh. The Division Bench  ordered notice to the State Government and Gopalakrishna.

Adjourned
The High Court has adjourned the hearing on a petition filed by former minister Katta Subramanya Naidu seeking to quash the FIR against him.

Opposing the petition, senior counsel Ravi Varma Kumar contended that the petition was not maintainable since two similar petitions on same grounds had been pending. A petition seeking to stay the proceedings had been withdrawn. The matter was adjourned.
