Telangana continues to be on the boil

On Day 2 of the stir, train services remained paralysed

APSRTC employees, teachers and state government staff have decided to continue their strike till the formation of a separate state.

The rail blockade that began on Saturday was part of the 13-day “Sakala Janula Samme” demanding Telangana state.

In view of the rail roko, train services remained cancelled till Sunday afternoon. All incoming trains from destinations in other states have resumed and the trains scheduled or re-scheduled to leave stations in Telangana were given a go-ahead after 6 pm on Sunday.

Immediately the South Central Railway restored, with effect from Sunday, the Secunderabad-Machilipatnam service, Hyderabad-Mumbai Express, Hyderabad-Nizamuddin Dakshin Express, Hyderabad-Kolhapur Holiday Special, Adilabad-Tirupathi Krishna Express, Sai Nagar Shirdi-Kakinada Town Express, Nanded-Hyderabad passenger special, Nanded-Hyderabad passenger and the Manmad-Bubaneshwar train.

However, Train No 12430 H Nizamuddin-Bangalore Rajdhani Express has been diverted to run via Itarsy, Bhushawal, Manmad, Dhoun, Wadi and Dharmavaram.

The SCR also decided to keep reservation counters open till 8 pm on Sunday facilitating reservation of vacant seats/berths.

Considering the success of the rail blockade, a section of the political parties, mainly the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), wanted to continue the agitation till the Union Government comes out with a positive announcement.

“The Telangana-Joint Action Committee (TJAC) has not given a call to continue the ‘rail roko’ agitation, beyond Sunday as appeared in certain sections of the press. The siege will end at 6pm on Sunday as planned earlier,” Prof Kodandaram, TJAC convener, clarified.

Irked by the active role of the BJP in the Telangana region and in imposing frequent bundhs, Majlis MP, Asaduddin Owaisi on Sunday lashed out at the organisers of the agitation.“When you deceive the common man with deadlines in Telangana, there will certainly be a flash point and Majlis will not be sitting with its hands tied,” warned Asad.

He said that carving a state is not as easy as cutting a birthday cake and the only political party benefiting immensely will be the “communal” BJP.
