A splash of everyday life

Last Updated 13 August 2009, 14:00 IST

Basuki's style of figuration can be placed in the long practice of the Bengal figurative tradition, that takes its roots from folk drawing.

The subject matter for his paintings comes from everyday life and folk and religious mythology. From 1993 onwards, he has participated in more than 15 shows, both solo and group.

Basuki graduated in painting from Vishwabharati University, Santiniketan after which he completed his Masters in mural painting from the same school.

Throughout his career, he has worked on murals using various techniques like the Jaipur, Italian and Pompeii Fresco, egg and casein tempera, cement and sandcasting, terracotta and mixed media.

The visual aesthetics of mural-making translate into painted form when he works on canvas or paper. The surfaces of his mixed media works are usually richly textured, with the forms appearing as though in relief.

The exhibition will be on till August 28 at Kynkyny Art, Infantry Road. The timing is 10 am to 7 pm.
