JOIN USThe BJP said Union Home Minister P Chidambaram has a lot to answer and the issue is not an internal matter of the Congress. The opposition party’s comment came soon after Mukherjee read out a well scripted statement before the media to clarify the note which was “accepted” by Chidambaram.
“Chidambaram has no right to accept Mukherjee’s explanation. You are an accused Mr Chidambaram,” BJP spokesperson Ravi Sankar Prasad said, blaming the home minister. “I do not agree with the UPA government’s stand that they carried forwarded a decision taken by the NDA regime on spectrum pricing in 2003,” said Prasad. “This country is not going to accept this completely untenable explanation of Pranab Mukherjee,” the BJP leader said.
The controversy has brought the UPA II on the brink of a serious political crisis. The Supreme Court will take a view on Chidambaram’s alleged role in the scam. On Monday, Chidambaram reportedly offered to resign in a 20-minute meeting he had with Sonia Gandhi.
