Colourful start to Srirangapatna Dasara

History revisited: Fort town to come alive for next four days

A colourful procession of cultural troupes and tableaux from various parts of the district was the key attraction in the three kilometre procession route. The procession which began at Bannimantap concluded outside Sri Ranganathaswamy temple in the town. The Kamsale, Goravara Kunitha, Charmavadya Mela, Pooja Kunitha, Somana Kunitha and Veera Makkalla Kunitha enthralled the audience throughout the procession route. NCC and scouts and guides troupes also took out a disciplined march on the occasion. Deputy Commissioner P C Jaffer, MLA Ramesh Bandisiddegowda and others were present.

Cong boycott 

Meanwhile, the Congress members of town municipality has decided to boycott the Dasara celebrations which began here on Friday. Accusing the administration of neglecting the former MLAs of the party, the municipality members said they would not attend any of the Dasara programmes. The Congress party members took a dig at the Dasara organising committee and said senior leaders of the town were not given due credit. Freedom fighter Bandigowda is also neglected and no woman is given any representation in the organising of the festival, members Yashodamma, Somashekar, Ravinandan, Narayanaswamy and Padmamma said.

They also slammed the decision of the Dasara organising committee for shifting the venue for Grameena Dasara from Krishnaraja Sagar to Srirangapatna town. The decision has hurt the sentiments of people of KRS, they said.
