Kambara honoured

The writer who arrived in the city to take part in Srirangapatna Dasara was driven to CMC council where a special meet convened for the honour was held.

Vice-president J C Nagaraj, standing committee president Goureesh, members M J Chikkanna, Padmavathi Sridhar, deputy commissioner P C Jaffer and former minister G T Devegowda were present on the occasion.

Pride of state

Jnanapith awardee Chandrashekara Kambara has said the fort town Srirangapatna is the pride of State. The serene town is full of heritage structures, temples and monuments. It also heralded the struggle for freedom movement, he said.

He was speaking after being felicitated by the District Kannada Sahitya Parishat at a programme held in the town. Srirangapatna has a rich history of royalty. It is a house for art, culture and literature. It has always given me immense happiness to visit the town, said Kambara who was here to inaugurate Srirangapatna Dasara.

“The town has many heritage monuments, historic temples and is surrounded by the serene Cauveri backwaters,” he said.
