<p>The centre was started a year ago under Department of Animal Husbandry. Since the centre is located three kms away from the city many said that maintaining the centre will be a problem and hence the centre will not be a success. Surprisingly under the able leadership of Department Assistant Director Dr Pradeep and his team of four assistants the centre has forced the criticisers to take back their words.<br /><br />There are seven female and three male pigs of a particular American variety along with 13 female and four male Yorkshire varieties of pigs. While all these were brought last year, three more Yorkshire variety was added to the group from Goa this year.<br /> <br />Speaking to Deccan Herald Dr Pradeep said that a separate building is being constructed at a cost of Rs nine lakh right next to the centre. There are plans to take care of expectant pigs and the pigs which have just given birth to young ones in this building.<br /><br />The management of the centre gives utmost importance to hygiene and the proof for this is that not even a single pig has fallen sick so far. They are fed with nutritious food on time and are left in hygienic surroundings. <br /><br />The centre has been able to maintain the quality of breed because the breeding is done after pairing the male and the female pigs carefully. <br /><br />This year another set of young ones will be available during December. <br /><br />The centre is finding it difficult to meet the growing demand for young ones. With so many achievements the centre is suffering from shortage of permanent veterinary doctor. Since the Assistant Director from Kalasa visits the centre twice a day he has been finding it difficult to maintain the hospital. Further, since the centre is in the outskirt of the city the persons working here find it difficult to commute too.<br /><br />If the government pays attention and provides the centre with better facilities there is not doubt of the centre carving a niche for itself.</p>
