More schools declare holiday

Bishop Cotton Boys School authorities sent SMSes to parents about the extension of holidays till August 19 citing weather as the reason. National Public School declared holiday till August 24 for students of LKG to Class V. Classes will resume on August 18 for students of class VI to X.

Most schools have also announced that parents have the liberty to keep their children at home in case of cold, cough and fever. An official from Delhi Public School said the school authorities have informed parents to keep their wards at home if they are found to have flu-like symptoms.

Meanwhile, it was a different scenario to see schools which had declared holidays for week to resume classes on Monday. Children were seen heading back to classes with masks.

A few schools have closed down to sanitise their premises as precautionary measures. Schools like Clarence High School, Ryan International, Sudarshan Vidya Mandir have already sanitised their campuses to ward off the possibilities of any infection.

The Union Health Ministry, which issued a fresh set of guidelines regarding H1N1 influenza, has also ordered to do away with morning assemblies in schools.
On the decision, Dr R G Nadadur, Principal Secretary, Primary and Secondary Education Department said that a meeting will be convened to discuss the guidelines on school assemblies.

He said, “On Tuesday, the Education Department officials, Commissioner of Public Instruction and the chief secretary will hold a discussion on the guideline issued by the Health Ministry. We will certainly abide by the Ministry’s order but the modalities of doing so will be discussed.”
