Six held for attempting to sell ancient inscriptions

An SUV (Tata Sumo) was also recovered from their possession.

Based on a tip-off that a few people were selling the inscriptions near Daddi Cross, police laid a trap and nabbed the suspects.

The suspects are Kallappa Anna Shirgavi, Bahubali Kallappa Shirgavi, Annaso alias Ramchandra Satappa Nayak, Sahadev Hariba Mane, all residents of Chanchwad village in Shirol taluk of Kolhapur district, Ashok Munnappa Sutar and Vidyanand Balwant Kadam, both residents of Jaisinghpur in Shirol taluk of Kolhapur district.

Superintendent of Police Sandeep Patil said selling ancient manuscripts was a crime and called upon the people not to sell or purchase them.
