The backward taluk had got a college due to the consistent efforts of former legislator G V Sriramareddy. The students from rural areas thought it was a blessing when the college was sanctioned BSc, BCom, BBM and Computers courses. Initially it even had adequate teaching and non-teaching staff. But, it lacked the basic infrastructure to conduct the classes.

It was not provided with classrooms, labs, toilets and drinking water facilites. Computer classes were not held as the college didn’t have computers. The students squatted on the floor as there were no benches.

The college, when built in 1869, had 10 classrooms. But they were demolished when they became dilapidated. The classes were held on the playground of the PU College which has also accommodated the high school students, who are also sailing in the same boat.

Now, the college authorities have been scouting for a private building for rent to conduct the classes. A memorandum has been submitted to the taluk block education officers.

The Education department has sanctioned Rs 1.27 crore for the building and land has been identified near the toll gate on the town’s outskirts. But, the work will begin only after the government releases the funds.

Legislator N Sampangi said till the construction work is over the classes will be held on the premises of the Girls’ Government High School. A decision will be taken after a meeting with the block education officers and tTP CEO.
