700 police personnel deployed for Dattamala Abhiyan

Heavy vehicles can ply to peetha this year

District Superintendent of Police Vikas Kumar said that two DySPs, 12 Circle Inspectors, 61 Sub Inspectors, 350 Home Guards, 700 police personnel, seven Karnataka State Reserve Police platoons, 14 armed force platoon have been deployed in the district from Friday onwards. These Police have been pooled from Udupi, Dakshina Kannada and Uttar Kannada districts.

The SP said that the number of police deputed on duty for security purpose is lesser when compared to last year. However, the strength required to maintain law and order in case of crisis have been deputed.

“Last year heavy vehicles were kept away from the peetha but this year since there is no congestion of traffic even heavy vehicles will be allowed,” he said adding that separate arrangements have been made for vehicles plying to Chikmagalur, Dattapeetha, Kaimara and peeth. As many as 14 check posts have been put up in the district.

Vehicles coming from Dakshina Kannada route will be checked at Kottigehara, Balehonnur,Lingadahalli, Sakharayapatna check posts.

Answering a query if Sri Ram Sene activists have taken permission for the Shobhayatre to be held in the district on November 12, the SP said that they have not asked for permission so far. However, decision will be taken considering the situation existing then.

The SP said that personnel below 45 years will be deputed at the peetha considering the cold weather. Necessary facilities will be provided to those personnel who will be staying at the peetha after duty.

“Jerkins have been provided to the personnel deputed at the peetha. Close Circuit Cameras will be installed even this year,” he said.With regard to opening of Women’s police station in Chikmagalur, the SP said that though a proposal was sent to the government in the past the need for the same is not felt now as there are women cops working in every station.
