Hakathur school, place with a difference

Each teacher adopts a poor student here

However, there are several government schools, which are known for their quality education and people feel honoured to send their children to such schools. Here is Hakathur Government High School, which has been imparting quality and value based education to the children.

The school is situated about six to seven kilometers from Madikeri and is surrounded by coffee estates.

The school started in 1981 has a good building, library, toilets, tailoring centre and computer section. As many as 212 students are pursuing their high school education in the school. The school has secured 97 per cent results in the SSLC examination last year.

Unique programme
The school has started a unique programme of teachers adopting a poor student every year. The teachers will bear the expenses of the student like transport and other academic related expenses. Along with the academic activities, the students are taught tailoring, growing vegetables and are encouraged to take part in sports.

The grown vegetables are sold in Makkala santhe held every January. The villagers, students are encouraged to give their suggestions on the development of the school.
The school Headmaster K A Ramachandra said without the support of the teachers and villagers, the school could not have been different.

The land for the school was donated by Narayana Rao Dwaraka. Villagers like Dambekodi Leelavathi Chinnappa, Mandera Nanaiah, Sabu Thimmaiah have helped the school in many ways.
