They also alleged of lobbying by the middlemen, contractors and department officials and introducing sand policy is the only way to solve the problems. They also took out a jatha stressing the government to provide protection to the sericulturists, who are anxious over the sudden crash of cocoon prices.

The protesters took out a march from the Silver Jubilee Park and staged a dharna in front of deputy commissioner’s office for a while and submitted a memorandum.

Association president M Puttamadhu, general secretary Basavaraju, Hanumesh, Abdulla and others took part in the protest march.

Sharing their grievances, they said that the ongoing truck drivers stir has resulted in the spiralling of prices per load. If the price is Rs 5,000 per load in rural places it is still more in cities.

With the government failing to sort out the issue, it is the middlemen who are making quick bucks and as a result of this, it is affecting the people, especially middle classes, they said. The other demands included sand policy, control the sand price as in Davangere and others.
