Major rivers including Ghaghra, Gandak, Rapti and Saryu have been rising steadily following heavy rains during the past few days. Ghaghra has crossed the danger mark at Ayodhya, while Gandak was flowing above the danger mark at Kushinagar.

Flood waters have entered hundreds of villages in Gorakhpur, Siddharthnagar, Basti, Lakhimpur, Baharaich, Balrampur, Shravasti, Barabanki districts forcing the authorities to evacuate the residents to safer places. Rail traffic on the north eastern railway’s Tikonia-Gonda section had to be closed after flood waters inundated the tracks at many places.

Authorities have launched relief and rescue operations in the affected districts with the help of PAC  jawans.
