She was suffering from bronchopneumonia, hypertension and diabetes, and had only 78 per cent oxygen content in the blood, when diagnosed at the Hospital on Monday morning.
Director of the Hospital Dr C N Manjunath said that the patient was admitted on humanitarian grounds, as the Hospital is not one of those listed to screen H1N1 patients.

“The patient was in a bad condition when she was admitted at our Hospital.  She was gasping for breath and was almost in the final stage, since we kept her on ventilator, she survived till midnight,” he said.

The patient's swab sample was collected on Tuesday evening to confirm if she had H1N1 Influenza. The swab was sent only on Wednesday morning, as Nimhans does not accept any samples after 4 pm.

Dr Manjunath further said that, if the patient tests positive for H1N1 Influenza then her cause for death will be considered as ARDS (Acute Respiratory Distress Syndrome). Her results are expected on Thursday.
The results are expected on Thursday.
