Last Updated 21 August 2009, 18:14 IST

Pigs are being reared in densely populated areas of the town and the rearers let the animals in the town for food. As a result, pig menace has assumed grave proportions putting the residents at the risk of epidemic.

The Town Municipality, in the recent past had taken a decision to shift the pigs away from the City and the animals were removed to rural areas too. However, they have been brought back, Munivenkatappa, a resident told Deccan Herald.

Apart from this, pigsty and pork shops are located in residential areas causing deleterious effect on residents. The promise to shift pork shops is yet to be acted upon.

Similarly, the snail’s pace of work on drainage construction has been causing inconvenience to the residents. The condition worsens whenever it rains, with water stagnating on roads. This has also converted roads into potential mosquito breeding grounds, the residents have alleged.
