K'taka govt to support Kannada school

Addressing the golden jubilee celebration of the school on Sunday, he hailed its contribution to education in the national capital.

Though initially the school imparted education to Kannadigas, now many non-Kannadigas too study in the institution, Kumar said.

Chief guest and Arjuna awardee athlete Ashwini Nachappa called upon the parents and teachers to encourage the children to participate in activities like sports, cultural activities.

Expressing happiness over the achievements of the school, Nachappa said it was a matter of pride for the people of Karnataka that a school in the national capital completed its 50 years successfully.

Delhi Kannada Sangha president Venkatachala Hegde, in-charge principal of the school K T Ganesh, Delhi Kannada Education Society president G M Lingaraju, Honarary Secretary Anjini Gowda were present.

Schoolchildren regaled the audience with dance, drama and singing.

The school started on December 11, 1961, with just one teacher and 12 students. It has now grown manifold with 1,117 students and 60 teachers.

The school is the brain child of the then Deputy Chairman of Rajya Sabha, the late S V Krishna Murthy Rao, who was also the founder-president of Delhi Kannada Education Society.
