The deceased, identified as Sarjabai Hadude of Bhada village, was staying in the hospital to tend to her daughter Sumitra Gore, who had got admitted for delivery.
Sarjabai passed away in sleep last night. This morning, as her death came to light, the relatives also noticed that three fingers of the left hand and two of the right hand were eaten by rats.
Gore, her daughter, told PTI that there were too many rats around and complaints to the administration had elicited no action.
Hospital dean Dr Satish Deshpande admitted that the administration has failed to curb the number of rats.
Last year, the hospital was in the news when stray dogs were found to have bitten off leg of a dead girl, an AIDS victim.
