He was speaking after inaugurating the new building of Lakshmi Vidya Educational Institution, in Chintamani on Monday and said the world is looking at our democratic system. Democracy should mean development of the country and serving the society, it should not be looting it.

The money spent during elections, if it is instead spent on helping the people, there will be sufficient development. The independence which was got through sacrifice should not be squandered away and it should be protected at any cost, he
advised.

In the society, the religious and moral values are being destroyed. Instead there is unrest, confusion, confrontation, impatience and terrorist activities on the rise. Is this the aim of the man to safeguard his position is the question that arises, he said
Culture, human and spiritual values should be the foundation of man. Educational institutions should strive hard to work with integrity and honesty, he said.

The teachers should work hard to build a new society trying to recapture harmony among human beings. The scientific and technological developments that are taking place in is definitely taking on the path to progress. But if one looks dispassionately at the situation, the country is not really benefiting from this, he said.

Due to the influence of  information technology the research work that is going on is tremendous. But if one looks at the ground realities, has it really helped in the progress? What about the values? Where have they disappeared, is what the intellectuals and human right activists and patriots need to think about.

An important question that is staring us in the face is who is going to set this right. Peace, harmony, compatibility, introspection are all very essential, he said.

Mount Abu’s Brahmakumari B K Mruthyunjaya said the society is moving from light to darkness. If this has to be set right then moral, spiritual, historical and the knowledge of yoga should be awakened.

Vijayapura’s Mahadevaswami also spoke. Institution chairman Narasimha Reddy presided. Former minister K M Krishna Reddy, former Assembly speaker Ramesh Kumar, leaders Chokka Reddy, Sriram Reddy, Block Educational Officer K Manjunath and retired block education officer Narayan Reddy  and many other dignitaries participated.
