'Do not move court over loan waiver issue'

CM directs co-op banks to withdraw cases

Chief Minister D V Sadananda Gowda has directed the co-operative banks not to move to the Court over loan waiver of areca growers.

Unveiling the statue of Dr B R Ambedkar installed in Zilla Panchayat premises on Sunday, the CM took part on an interactive session with the farmers. During the programme, the CM instantaneously issued the order.

“Stop transferring of cases of District co-op Court to Civil Court and issuing warrant against the farmers. The proceedings of the cases moved to Civil Court already should be stopped. The cases should be withdrawn immediately,” he said promising alternate arrangements to co-op banks which are due to get loan amount from the farmers. He further asked the banks to see to it that the lands of the farmers are not confiscated and auctioned by the banks.

When MLA D N Jeevaraj, Senior farmer from Koppa Dakshinamurthy and others explained to the CM the various problems faced by the areca growers in Sringeri and Koppa, the CM said that all party members’ delegation will soon go to the Centre to speak about the problems faced by the growers.

“We will pressurise the Centre to implement Gorak Singh Committee Report which had recommended waiver of loan of the farmers with land holding up to four hectare.
There will be no politics in issues pertaining to farmers and development,” said the CM adding that help of Central minister M Veerappa Moily, S M Krishna, Mallikarjuna Kharge, K H Muniyappa will be sought to solve the problems of the farmers.

He asked the Deputy Commissioner to open paddy purchase centre and provide support price of Rs 250.

The CM has promised to release a special package of Rs 60 crore for the development of the district.“This district belongs to me and hence the district will see special development. The Rs 60 crore special package will be utilised to take up 59 priority works,” he said adding that Kadur-Chikmagalur road surfacing work should be started immediately.

Home Minister R Ashok, District in-charge Minister S Suresh Kumar, MLAs M P Kumaraswamy, D N Jeevraj, D S Suresh among others were present.
