Delhi Health Minister A K Walia held a meeting on Wednesday with all branded milk producers regarding the purity and quality of milk. The producers were told to follow Food Safety Standard Authority of India’s instructions.

The milk producers were apprised of the true spirit of the Food Safety and Standard Act, 2006 and stringent punishment envisaged under it.

Walia instructed the bulk milk producers to ensure supply of pure and safe milk in the Capital by establishing a number of checks and balances.  “They have also been told to upgrade their laboratories.”

He said check on quality of milk should be started while procuring milk from initial producers. Thereafter in-house testing during processing of the milk should be conducted. He also asked for random testing by picking up a few marketed pouches of milk from various localities. He further instructed them to print the type of milk -- double-toned, toned and full cream.

Walia underlined the need of maintaining hygiene standards during processing of milk. He also instructed the Department of Prevention of Food Adulteration to continue its efforts in monitoring the supply of branded milk producers.
