Inspired by a TV crime serial, a youth allegedly sacrificed a 10-year old girl in Uttar Pradesh’s Mirzapur town, about 300 km from here, to please a deity so that his childless wife might give birth to a baby.
The youth identified as Rajesh Vishwakarma, a carpet weaver, allegedly lured the neighbourhood girl into his house on Sunday night when his wife was away to her parents’ house. He took her to a secluded spot and allegedly chopped the girl's neck before an idol of deity and later buried her body.
The girl's family had lodged a missing report with police and kept searching for her throughout the night.
On Monday night, Rajesh visited the spot again. He brought out the body stuffed in a sack in a tempo and parked it outside the house of the victim's parents.
After the body was recovered, Police put sniffer dog into service to trace the killer. Later Rajesh was arrested from his house. The police also recovered the blood stained murder weapon.
Rajesh told the police he had been married for four years.
