The election to the post of Vice President was, however, deferred as there was a High Court stay on it.

The newly-elected President said she will give priority to fight A (H1N1) flu which is spreading like wild fire. “I will immediately call a meeting of health officials and direct them to take necessary steps to control the flu,” she added.

The ZP council has 13 Congress members, 7 BJP and 2 JD(S). The JD(S) members did not participate in the election.

Earlier, Congress’ Rajanna and BJP’s G Nagaraj had filed nomination papers for the post of the President and the Vice President. But the election was postponed due to High Court stay order.

On Friday, Bhagya Rajashekara Reddy also filed the nomination for the post of President. With Rajanna withdrawing his nomination, Reddy was declared the new President. Bangalore division Regional Commissioner G M Dhananjaya conducted the election.

The Regional Commissioner then began the process for the post of Vice President. At that time, it was brought to his notice that there is a HC stay on conducting the election. As a result, it was postponed.
