Elderly woman robbed of ` 2 lakh worth chain

Even as the police are making concerted efforts to check increasing cases of chain snatching, an elderly woman was robbed of her mangalsutra worth Rs two lakh in the city on Tuesday.

Prema Iyer, a resident of sixth main in Jayalakshmipuram is the victim. She was returning home after visiting Raghavendra Swamy mutt in the locality, when a moped-borne youth struck her from the opposite direction around 7.15 pm.

Following the rise in cases, police have put up extra picketing points in the city.

The men deployed at the points have been regularly inspecting two-wheelers, targeting youth.
Such points have been put up near the mutt also.

Jayalakshmipuram police have registered a case.

Death on train

A man died of heart attack aboard a train on Monday. The deceased has been identified as Hari Om Kapoor (57), quality manager at a factory in Tandavapura Industrial Area in Nanjangud in the district.

Kapoor was recently transferred from Bangalore unit.

Railway police said, Hari Om Kapoor was a native of Jaipur in Rajasthan state.

He, along with his colleague, manager at the factory, Kannan had boarded the Mysore bound Myladuthurai Express train in Bangalore on Monday morning.

After crossing Pandavapura, it came to the notice of co-passengers that Kapoor had died while in sleep. His identity was traced with the help of his identity card.

However, according to the rules, his relatives were summoned for identification and other formalities.

His children, who arrived in Mysore on Tuesday, identified the body. The last rites were performed here.
