The police had registered a case recently against the producers of the film following allegations that the name of Jagannath, the presiding deity of the Puri temple, had been misused in the crime flick.

The case was registered on the basis of a complaint filed by Jagannath Sena, a local organisation in Puri, protesting a scene in the movie showing a toilet door with the sentence Apna Haath Jagannath written on it. Sources said the police had taken the case seriously following pressure from organisations, individuals as well as religious leaders who felt that misuse of the deity’s name was aimed at hurting the sentiments of millions of devotees.

The Shankaracharya of Puri, Swami Nischalananda Saraswati, slammed the producers and the director of the film and appealed to the Centre to take action against them.

“The religious sentiments of Hindus have been hurt by the movie. The home ministry should ban the movie and take action against the producers,” the seer said. Sources said the Puri temple administration was also planning to write to the producers to at least delete the controversial scene.
