The sixth edition of the ‘Bangalore Fashion Week’ kickstarted in the City on Thursday, and though the first day didn’t see a big crowd, the spirit and the passion for fashion was definitely not lacking among those who attended.

Models, designers, buyers and choreographers were at  Hotel Crowne Plaza, socialising and catching up with old friends. But once the show started, they immediately got down to business.

The line-up of designers on day one saw many new and well-known designers. Pallab Das, a Kolkata-based designer, showcased his latest collection, ‘Confluence in Twilight’. The designer had taken inspiration from nature and believes that it is nature that can provide the best guidance.

“I have used a lot of blues and fused in Indian and modern elements into my collection,” said Pallab. This was immediately followed by Chaitali Giri and Biplab Giri’s ‘White Princess’.

The collection had a refreshing look with dresses, shorts and three-fourth pants in linen, cotton, silk, georgette and other light weight fabrics. Like the title, white was the predominant colour in their collection. “White is the colour of god and we wanted to pay a tribute to the almighty. Unlike our previous collections, this time we have tried to experiment a bit and bring in a change for our customers,” said Chaitali.

Priya Narang’s ‘Islamic Empires’ comprised authentic Pakistani clothing. Taking inspiration from their traditional garments, the collection saw a lot of flowing silhouettes with the use of silk, chiffons and georgettes, embellished with colourful intricate embroideries giving it a very royal feel.

Designers Leela and Kavitha Gutta came out with their latest collection which was inspired by the bird macaw. With hints of traditional Indian embroidery, the collection saw a play of colours making it a very bold and bright one.

The evening then made way for the first international designer of the week, Bozena Carter. Calling it her most favourite collection, Bo, as she is fondly called, said that her inspiration was from many different cultures. “I have used my favourite Victorian influence with a modern Japanese mixture and Indian colours,” she added.

The last two designers were the most anticipated ones. Rahul Singh surprised all with his elegant collection, ‘Persephone’. Inspired by the Greek goddess of spring and healing, the collection impressed one and all. Finally, Archana Kochchar’s ‘Summer Brides’ for destination weddings made its way to the ramp.

The collection opened with light weight white kaftans and then flowed into heavy adorned lehengas, sherwanis and anarkalis with contrasting bold colours.

Actress Anjani Sukhani, who was the showstopper for the evening, said, “Though marriage is still not on the agenda, if and when I do get married, I know that Archana would be my designer. She is a dear friend and I was more than happy to walk for her.”
