A pack of stray dogs chased and attacked 25 schoolchildren in Mominpura here on Friday. Thirteen grievously injured children were treated at the District General Hospital. The rest were treated in private clinics.

The children, studying in nursery and primary classes, were on their way to school when the canines attacked them. Hearing their shrieks, local residents rushed to their rescue and scared the dogs away.

The incident has created fear among the residents of Mominpura and surrounding areas about the safety of  schoolgoing children.

Ahmed Ali, father of Afsan, one of the victims, said the dog menace had been brought to the notice of the municipal authorities on several occasions, but no steps had been taken so far.

Mahanagara Palike Commissioner Nagayya said the Palike would evolve measures to check the menace in the city.
