<p>Senior Advocate S Vijayshankar is likely to be appointed as the next Advocate General (AG), following the resignation of senior counsel B V Acharya from the post. <br /><br /></p>.<p>Sources in the chief minister’s office confirmed that D V Sadananda Gowda had already signed a letter in this regard which would be forwarded to the Governor on Friday for approval. <br /><br />If appointed, this will be Vijayshankar’s second stint as the AG, as he served in the post from June 1996 to October 24, 1999, under then chief minister J H Patel. When contacted on Thursday evening, Vijayshankar said he had already given his consent to the post and was awaiting the official notification. <br /><br />Last year, he had appeared on behalf of the Legislative Assembly Speaker K G Bopaiah in a case filed by the five disqualified independent MLAs in the High Court.</p>
