Overall, six districts — Bangalore Rural, Bellary, Koppal, Mysore, Tumkur and Uttara Karnataka, have seen projects cleared in Iron & Steel, Paints & Varnish, Power, Tyre and IT sectors — with a potential to generate 30,352 employment.
Briefing reporters, Industries & Commerce Director Raj Kumar Khatri said these projects will become operational in less than five years, and that, land will be revoked in case of projects that fail to show progress in the first two years. The State, in the last 15 months, has revoked 140 acres of land worth approximately Rs 150 crore — mainly small projects — the minister said, adding that similar policy will be followed in case of projects cleared under the new government.

He said among the projects that were previously approved about 60-70 per cent are operational, and those that haven’t taken off, have received notices from the State seeking the land back. Among projects cleared JSW Steel Limited has got approval to expand its capacity from 10 to 16 MTPA and to set up a 600 MW captive power plant in Bellary, at an investment of Rs 15,131 crore. Karnataka Power Corporation’s (KPC) gas-based power project proposal in Tadadi, to generate 2,100 MW of power will bring an investment Rs 10,000 crore.

NMDC’s proposal for a  5 MTPA integrated steel plant worth Rs 9,280 crore  was also cleared. ETL Infrastructure Services’ proposal for an IT park with disaster recovery facility centre at Devanahalli envisaging investment of Rs 993 crore and is expected to generate too received approval.
