Abhishek,Reshma in semifinals

Karnataka’s Abhishek Yeligar fought back from a first game deficit to overcome third seed Pratul Joshi in the under-19 boys’ quarterfinals of the 36th National Junior badminton championships at the Sawai Man Singh stadium here on Friday.

Abhishek, seeded eighth, created an upset by ousting Joshi of Air India 10-21, 21-13, 22-20 to reach the semifinal stage. Abhishek will take on second seed C Rohit Yadav of Andhra Pradesh, who defeated seventh seed Aditya Joshi of Air India 21-18, 21-18.

Abhishek’s State-mate Reshma Karthik also made it to the girls’ under-17 last-four stage after the third seed edged past seventh seed Vijetha K of AP 22-20, 21-18 in the quarterfinals. But it was curtains for Arsheen Syeda Saadath, who went down to second seed Ruthvika Shivani G of AP 14-21, 21-15, 21-14.
