A 50-year-old man committed suicide by jumping from the 15th floor of a highrise at Nehru Place in south-east Delhi on Saturday morning, police said.

He has been identified as Deepak Kaul, an officer with Ministry of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises Development Institute at Allahabad in Uttar Pradesh.

“The incident was reported from Modi Tower. According to eyewitness accounts, Vinod removed the grill of a window, around six inches above the floor, and jumped to death around 10.45 am,” a police official said. He died on the spot.

His body has been sent to All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) Trauma Centre for a post-mortem.

Under depression

“No suicide note was found from the spot. Deepak’s sister claims he was depressed over some issue. It seems that he came to the building with the intention of killing himself,” the official added.

Deepak had arrived in Delhi on Wednesday and had been staying at a hotel in Paharganj.
“He left the hotel around 10 am and took an autorickshaw to Nehru Place,” the official said.

“He was divorced and his children stay with his wife in Maini in Uttar Pradesh,” he added.

A case has been registered  at Amar Colony police station.
