Last Updated 14 February 2012, 19:55 IST

A motorcyclist was killed on the spot after a KSRTC bus knocked him down on Dr Rajkumar Road at 8.30 pm on Tuesday. Santosh Kumar, 28, was riding home from work when the accident occurred.

According to police, the driver of the speeding bus lost control over the vehicle when Santosh entered Dr Rajkumar Road and took a right turn. The central median on Dr Rajkumar Road has openings to facilitate motorists to take left and right turns.

Kumar entered Dr Rajkumar Road from a road connecting Ramachandrapura and took a right turn. The driver of the bus (Bangalore-Tiptur route) lost control over the vehicle when Santosh took a turn and rammed against his two-wheeler.

The bus driver fled the spot and the police have seized the bus. Santosh came to Bangalore six years ago and was working with a private firm at Sarjapura. He was a resident of Shivanagar 12th Cross. He was the only son of his parents and hailed from Guledgudda of Badami taluk in Bagalkot district.

“The intensity of the accident was such that Kumar and the bike were dragged for more than 100 metres,” Ramesh, an eye-witness, told Deccan Herald. Kumar was taken to Suguna Hospital where doctors declared him brought dead.

The accident led to a traffic jam for an hour and there was a long queue of buses and other vehicles for nearly a kilometre, he added. Hundreds of local residents gathered at the accident spot and flayed the Rajajinagar traffic police for their negligence in preventing the rash and negligent driving on the stretch, especially by drivers of KSRTC and private buses. The people alleged that there was an unholy nexus
between the police and the drivers.

There was commotion when a traffic policeman asked the residents not to speak to the media and threatened them.
