Eleven persons have been arrested for allegedly gangraping two teenage girls at the Betma town in the district, police said on Sunday.

The accused included the son of a BJP corporator and grandson of a Congress corporator, they said.

The two victims, aged 18 and 19 respectively, were allegedly sexually assaulted by 15 people at a farm near Betma town, about 35 km away from here, on February 10, police said.

The victims, who were cousin sisters and worked as labourers, had been called to the farm by one Javed who had promised them work.

After committing the crime, the accused threatened the duo of dire consequence if they reported the matter to anyone.

However, recently the victims mustered courage and narrated their ordeal to their relatives, who approached police on Saturday following which arrests were made.

Police have registered a complaint against 15 people, they said, adding that no accused had any previous criminal background.
