Lineman electrocuted in Kadur

Relatives stage stir against Mescom, block highway

Kadur Mescom junior lineman, D P Mallikarjun (38) was electrocuted when he was repairing the faulty power lines between Tangali transmission centre and  Yemmedoddiya transmission line on Monday.

Mallikarjun, who hails from  Danayakpura in Tarikere taluk, attending to repair work along with his colleagues Bairappa, Subbayya and Srinivasmurthy on Monday morning.

Immediately after receiving the news of Mallikarjun’s death, his friends, relatives and villagers gathered in front of the Mescom office with the mortal remains of the deceased and shouted slogans against the Mescom officials.

When the family members tried to block the National Highway, the police officers summoned MESCOM officials to the police station to discuss the incident.

Tarikere MLA Suresh, Kadur MLA Dr Y C Vishwanath, DySP Sadanand Nayak and hundreds of people from the deceased’s family gathered at the police station. The people expressed their anger against the Mescom officials for their alleged negligence.

The relatives said that Mallikarjun was made to climb the faulty pole purposely.
“This incident is pre-palnned,” alleged Mallikarjun’s brother Shivakumar. He demanded suspension of three people who accompanied Mallikarjuna and also said that department should conduct an investigation into the matter. Both the MLAs stood by the demand of the family members.

Bairappa, Subbayya and Srinivasmurthy, the linemen who accompanied Mallikarjuna will be suspended soon, announced Mescom Chief Engineer.

He also assured job for the deceased person’s wife and Rs one lakh as compensation. Later, the relatives took the dead body of Mallikarjun and proceeded to the village to finish the last rites.

Mallikarjun worked for Mescom for eight years as a temporary employee and was given permanent job three years ago.

He married Kavitha, last June. The Kadur Police registered a complaint.
