Chaos, encroachment choke BB Road

There seems to be no end to traffic woes and pedestrians’ problems on the bustling BB Road in Chikkaballapur.

This despite the measures taken by the traffic police to ease the flow of traffic recently. The new parking arrangement has not brought much relief to both vehicle users, traders and pedestrians. The police also had placed signboards and cautioned to slap fine for violating traffic rules.

The traffic police have been even manning the vehicular movement. But, gravels, cement and other construction materials dumped on the roadside has led to congestion. The vendors have occupied the rest of the space, leaving no safe path for pedestrians.

Shekhar, a retailer, said: “Dust and crowd makes BB Road suffocating and causing breathing uneasiness. It is not possible to have tea or food at hotels on BB Road.”

Accident prone
The stretch has turned an accident zone, with traffic chaos claiming several lives of vehicle users and pedestrians, he added.

Ranganath, a retired teacher, said: The traffic police should strictly ensure that vehicles are not parked on the footpath. Besides, the city municipality council should clean the road at least twice a day.  They should also clear encroachment upon roads and footpaths by street vendors and owners of under-construction buildings.”
