40 injured in 'Jallikattu'

 More than 40 persons, including bull tamers and audience, were injured in the ''Jallikattu'' (taming the bull) held at Sakkudi near here as part of a temple festival, police said today.

Four bull tamers who sustained severe injuries in the yesteray's event were admitted to Government Rajaji Hospital, police said.

Nine persons, including a police official, were injured when the stage erected for spectators collapsed due to crowding.

Around 1,200 bulls brought from 10 districts and 600 bull tamers participated in the event, the organisers said.Those who tamed bulls successfully got prizes.

The event was condcuted as per the guidlines from both the Supreme Court and Madras High Court, they said.
