Malavoor dam gets ` 7.5 cr

The government has sanctioned Rs 7.50 crore for the construction work related to the safety of Malavoor vented dam, informed Dakshina Kannada Zilla Panchayat President K T Shailaja Bhat.

Speaking to media persons on Saturday, she said that under the first phase, a sum of Rs 10.50 crore was released  for the work related to supplying drinking water facility to Malavoor and 10 other villages. The State government had approved 288 different projects worth Rs 10 crore in the five taluks of the district for this fiscal year (2011-12), informed the President.

Shailaja Bhat assured that the ZP would finish 188 road repair works with a cost of Rs 3. 15 crores by March end. Along with this, 73 ZP projects will be finished in this month with a cost of Rs 1 crore. She said that Shiradi Ghat road repair work has been completed with the cost of Rs 5 crores.

Vision Document- 2020

Speaking to media persons, Zilla Panchayat Chief Executive Officer Dr K N Vijayaprakash said that the State government will be releasing Rs 2558 crores for ‘Vision Document- 2020 plan which is being implemented in the district. He said that ZP will start different projects step by step according to the available funds.

Vijayaprakash said that the process is in progress to build solid and liquid waste management units in Kadaba and Ujire Gram Panchayats of the district. He said that, in Bajpe Gram Panchayat, a unit is being built to convert waste into gas and in Subramanya Gram Panchayat, electricity will be produced using liquid and solid waste.

He said that the low cost sanitary napkin distribution project of the district administration has found great success and the project would be a part of Sarva Shikshana Abhiyan (SSA) from next fiscal year. “ZP has a plan to attach burning facility in all ladies toilets in the district. We are waiting for the guideline,” he added.
