DUTA to protest today

Last Updated 19 March 2012, 19:39 IST

Members of Delhu University Teachers’ Association will protest outside the venue of the academic council’s meeting on Tuesday, in an attempt to make the Delhi University vice chancellor agree to a `dialogue’ with them.

“The registrar of DU sent an unauthorised letter to all college principals asking them to submit attendance every month, which is a clear violation of the existing decision taken by the academic council clearly stating that the attendance will be submitted after every semester. We will protest outside the venue and try to press this issue with the AC too,”  said DUTA secretary S D Siddique.

DUTA members alleged that the VC is not adhering to decisions taken by the academic and the executive councils, which is also a violation of university norms.

“The manner in which the university is functioning in the absence of AC and EC shows the sorry state of affairs. We insist on a healthy debate. There must be a resolution of all existing matters concerning the teaching faculty,” added Siddique.

According to DUTA members, there are several other pending demands which have not been addressed.

The members will also protest about 4,000 unfilled  teaching posts, inflated marks in the semester system, and delaying of pensions.

“A tleast 15 colleges are running without principals. In a staff of 100, 60 are adhoc teachers, Siddique said.

“When there are so many posts lying vacant, then why this ad hochism? We are asking for a dialogue with the VC,” added Siddique.
