As Cong wins...

Last Updated 21 March 2012, 17:16 IST

Will respond to people

AICC President Sonia Gandhi, over a telephonic conversation has paid hearty gratitude to the people of Chikmagalur-Udupi constituency for the victory. She has promised to not let the people down. BJP’s mal-administration, favouritism and vulgar behaviour of elected representatives in the Assembly have brought them this day. This victory is undoubtedly a pre-cursor for the results of elections to be held in the future.

Dr G Parameshwar, KPCC Chief

Victory of goodness

People have identified and respected good qualities of an individual. Jayaprakash Hegde is known for his clean character, sincerity and politeness. This victory is actually a victory of party’s unity. We will remember that people have given us an opportunity to serve them and we will do the best we can.

M L Murthy, District Congress President

JD(S) defeated BJP

It is only due to the JD(S) that the BJP lost this election. We had given stiff competition to the BJP. Voters have given a clear message to the BJP. They have told the BJP that it should confine itself to Assembly polls and not eye on Lok Sabha.

H H Devaraj, JD(S) District Chief

Defeated due to infight

The BJP candidate has lost only to the infight at the State level. However, despite all the difficult situations, the voters in considerably large numbers have supported the BJP candidate, which in itself is overwhelming. This result calls for introspection, right from booth-level workers to state-level leaders. BJP congratulates Jayaprakash Hegde wholeheartedly.

C T Ravi, MLA, Chikmagalur

Congratulations to the winner

We bow our heads to the verdict of the people and congratulate Jayaprakash Hegde. Sringeri is hit by Yellow Leaf Disease and there are several problems pertaining to Tiger Conservation Project, to which Hegde has promised solution. Farmers are hopeful of getting packages to get them out of the crisis. Hegde should work for all of these issues. We will support the newly elected MP without any party differences.

D N Jeevaraj, MLA, Sringeri

Obnoxious episodes

Sidelining ‘Hindutva’ and party workers, mudslinging by state leaders, watching of porn clipping in the Assembly and many more cases of corruption have resulted in the defeat. Most of the women voters in the Malnad region have not voted for BJP because the porn gate incident has been perceived by them as disrespect towards women.
