Kapila river to be cleaned today

The Save Our Earth Club, an environmental organisation consisting of youths from rural area Hunsur, has planned a public movement to clean up the river Kapila that flows through the famous pilgrimage centre, Nanjangud on March 25.

The cleaning of the river is from 7 am to 11.30 am and the volunteers are requested to bring a towel and spare dress. The lunch will be provided by the temple authorities between 12 noon and 1 pm only. The river is clogging with all sorts of dumpings by devotees, leaking sewage of town residents and hyacinth.  Many  volunteers of organisations of Nanjangud town are participating in the cleaning up campaign, according to a press release from environmentalist and social activist Vasanthkumar Mysoremath.

“This problem had been brought to the notice of the Pollution Control Board and also National Human Rights Commission but to no avail. Our effort is to sensitize the people about their responsibilities to keep their pilgrimage centre clean and sacred,” said the release. The next programme proposed is the clean up of Sangam, Srirangapatna, said the release.

Youth campBharath Swabhiman trust in association with Patanjali Yoga Samithi (affiliated to Patanjali Yogpeeth, Haridwar) has organised a five day camp at Haridwar from April 7 to 11 especially for youth, according to a press release.The free camp for youth will include accommodation and food.
