And there was light in Dalit colony...

The happiness of the residents of Madhya Koraga colony knew no bounds, when few houses witnessed electricity supply for the first time on Saturday.

Thanks to the initiative of Zilla Panchayat, the houses of Vasanthi, Korapolu, Sumathi received electricity connection. With the Kuteera Jyothi scheme, the houses and streetlights could be lit in the colony. 

During a survey on the Koraga colony, Chelyar Gram Panchayat President and members had placed a demand for streetlights and electricity connections to several houses belonging to Koraga community, before Zilla Panchayat CEO Dr K N Vijayaprakash. 

On the direction of the CEO, the officials contacted MESCOM, who in turn took measures to implement Kuteera Jyoti scheme. Within three to four days of getting approval from the MESCOM, Karnataka Rajya Anudanitha Vidyuth Guthigedarara Sangha carried out all the work related to electricity connection. 

Speaking after inaugurating the facility, the CEO said that all the Koraga colonies in the district should get electricity connections. Zilla Panchayat will join hands with the authorities in organsing programmes like de-addiction and health camps. 

MESCOM divisional executive engineer K Jagadeesh said sanctioning letter for electricity connection for water supply and Kuteera Jyoti would be given within 15 days.
