Two students of Delhi University’s St Stephen’s College were attacked and robbed by two assailants with a sharp-edged weapon at Maurice Nagar in north Delhi, police said on Thursday.

The victims have been identified as Vikram Singh,18, a resident of Uttam Nagar and a Bachelor of Science second year student, and Diksha Kumar, a resident of Laxmi Nagar. The duo were returning home from college when the incident took place at around 6:15 pm on Wednesday.

“They exited the college through the rear gate and were walking towards Vishwa Vidyalaya Metro station. When they reached near the vice-chancellor’s office, two men approached them. One of them grabbed Diksha and placed a sharp-edged weapon on her neck. When Vikram tried to retaliate, he was severely beaten by the two men,” a police official said.

The robbers snatched Diksha’s Nokia C2 mobile phone and a bag containing an identity card, a PAN card and other valuables. “They also snatched Vikram’s wallet and fled from the spot,” the official said.

After receiving information about the incident, police reached the site and recorded the statements of the victims.

A case has been registered over the incident against unknown persons at Maurice Nagar police station. They face charges of robbery, voluntarily causing hurt in committing robbery and acts done by several persons in furtherance of common intention under sections 392, 394 and 34 of the Indian Penal Code.

“We have launched a manhunt to identify and nab the assailants,” the official added.
