Seven people were killed and three injured Friday when an oil tanker exploded in southern Afghan province of Kandahar, police said.

“An oil tanker exploded at around 8 am on Friday along a main road in Khuli Manda area of Panjwai district and the blast led to a minibus passing by the area catching fire,” police official Sardar Mohammad told Xinhua. The tanker was on the way from Panjwai to Kandahar when it caught fire.

He said seven passengers in the minibus were killed and three were injured in the incident. It was not immediately clear how the tanker exploded, Sardar added.
The provincial police chief said there was no insurgent activity at the time.
