Air-conditioned retiring rooms and a new queue system were launched at the City Railway Station on Friday.

K H Muniyappa, Union Minister of State for Railways, who inaugurated the new facilities, said the City has not been neglected in the railway budget this fiscal.

The five new retiring rooms at the station have LCD television sets, cushioned beds and modern toilets among other facilities. The new queue system at the Passenger Reservation System is expected to relieve the passengers the inconvenience of waiting in long queues.

According to the new system, the passengers will be assigned coupons and they can return at the opening time later to collect their tickets, instead of waiting for hours in the long queue.

Muniyappa later inaugurated an exit, additional parking area, a concourse, five booking counters and a platform shelter on the market side the Platform One at Yeshwantpur station.

The railway officials said though the market area outside the station is still congested, one end of the station’s boundary wall on the approach side was opened to provide for a new entry. Roads have been laid inside the boundary wall for smooth movement of the vehicles to the station.

It is also planned to provide tyre killer at the existing exit point within a week’s time to prevent any vehicle from entering from the exit side.
