Russell Market to get power connection soon

Last Updated 15 April 2012, 18:46 IST

The Bescom has finally responded to the petition by the traders at Russell Market for power connection.

The Bescom gave the green signal on April 13, almost two months after the fire mishap burnt down 176 shops in the market.

Procedures to follow

The Palike is yet to give them an NOC, but since the electricity meters are owned by individual traders, the Bescom agreed to provide power connection if the traders followed specific procedures and fulfilled requirements.

Power supply will be resumed after drawing new wires and installing electricity panels and meters, which will be inspected by a Bescom officer personally.

“The Bescom (East Division) official cooperated with us greatly. She even visited the spot and advised us about reparations,” said Mohammed Idrees Chaudhary, the general secretary of Russell Market Traders’ Association.

“Had we waited for the BBMP to take action on the matter, we would never have achieved what we have now,” he added.

With the renovation of the market complete, it will soon be open for the public.
The traders are hoping the chief minister will agree to inaugurate the renovated complex.
