Tech-expo showcases talents

Remote control machine to spray pesticide on arecanut tree, smart shoes that can help the blind to find out obstacles, unmanned ‘spy bot’ to attack enemies… and many more. The list is long.

In fact, as many as 176 projects by more than 700 students were showcased at Srinivas Institute of Technology in Valachil on Thursday as a part of Project Exbition-2012 of the college. The remote control arecanut pesticide sprayer was the innovation of Deepak, Swathi, Sana and Sthuthi of Electronics and Communication department. The equipment, which can be fixed on the tree could go up and spray pesticide to the desired direction.

The equipment can itself rotate to 360 degree thus ensuring that all the area of the tree is covered. It took one and half month for completing this project which costs Rs 14000.

Coconut De-husking machine by Ashwin Kamath, Sudhir Rao, Santhosh Saldana and Rahul Kamath was another interesting project. The coconut de-husking machine can de-husk coconut using a hydraulic system, which works using hand liver. 

There are two mechanical systems - one to push the coconut up and another with blades, which dehusks the coconut. The project was partially funded by Karnataka State Council for Science and Technology. ‘Smart shoe’ by Shravan of Electronics and Communication Engineering department is a GPS (Global Positioning System) enhanced sensory heels for the visually challenged. The sensory heels help the man to find out obstacles in the way. It can also guide the person to places he regularly goes, like market, home, provided a GPS system is fixed at the place. 

Pollution fighter by Dilna Udayan and team was another interesting project. The team has developed equipment, which can clear pollution from atmosphere, passing it through ionization process and release pure air.

Students of final and pre final year students belonging to Mechanical, Electronics, Computer Science and Information Science & Engineering exhibited their projects.

Karnataka State Council for Science and Technology had funded four projects. Earlier, Bharati Shipyard Public Relations Officer K Venugopal Shetty inaugurated the programme.

A Shama Rao Foundation Vice President A Srinivasa Rao, Principal Dr Shrinivasa Mayya were also present at the inaugural function.
